Malvern, Penn. (March 11, 2014) – Accutome launched a new surgical knife for manual astigmatic keratotomy. Developed in conjunction with David F. Chang M.D., the Chang LRI Diamond Knife design increases maneuverability when using the Wavetec ORA and Clarity Medical Systems Holos devices.

Accutome’s Chang LRI Diamond Knife for for manual astigmatic keratotomy.

The Chang LRI Diamond Knife was developed specifically for correcting astigmatism using an intraoperative aberrometer. Its customized, shorter handle design provides better control under the shorter working distance created by ORA and Holos device use. A winged footplate provides superior visualization and reduces epithelium drag.

The knife is available with a choice of three depths – 0.5mm, 0.55mm and 0.6mm. A fully retractable J-locking mechanism provides blade and sharps protection. Like all Accutome diamond knives the Chang LRI uses the highest quality pre-set diamond blade and is compatible with all types of sterilization.

David F. Chang M.D. is Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at University of California (San Francisco, Calif.) and an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Chinese University (Hong Kong). He has developed a wide range of surgical tools, including over a dozen knives, choppers and cannulas designed in collaboration with Accutome and other ophthalmic companies.
